Muir Woods National Monument

Muir Woods National Monument is located just outside of San Francisco, 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. It is open all year long, typical hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but hours vary between seasons. MWNM(Muir Woods National Monument) offers beautiful trails, camping, a picnic area and it is dogs friendly. MWNM can fluctuate between temperatures pretty quickly so always be prepared and bring a light jacket just in case it gets chilly. (40-70 degrees ave.)

The main entrance is ADA friendly with a main wooden/paved trail loop that is easy to walk, along the main trail loop there are various trails that are adjacent to the main path and are easy to strenuous. The main trail loop is perfect for families with children and seniors in their party and very wheelchair/ stroller accessible.

MWNM is home to many Coastal Redwood tree (Sequoia Sempervirens). Now they are not as wide in diameter to the Giant Sequoia Redwood but they are taller reaching as tall as 371.1ft and live to be 2000 years old. They can be found on the west coast from southern Oregon to Big Sur in California.
You can see many of the Coastal Redwoods growing in groups like in the picture above.

As I was walking the loop today I found a lovely ranger by the name of Jasmine speaking with some visiting tourists in Spanish. I found out that not only does MWNM give tours and educational programs but they are also offered tours in English and Spanish. I did not get the information for the English tours and programs but I did get Jasmine's information and you can get more information at (415)388-2596. I'm sure they will point you in the right direction if you as about the English tours.
(Jasmine ofrece tours y vistias guiadas de una hora o platicas de arboles de 15 minutos duracion. Para mas informacion llame al (415)388-2596)
Here is Jasmine talking to a few folks about the Spanish program she she offers.

If you have a chance to visit MWNM I highly recommend it. Its great for the whole family from children to avid hikers and it has great group camping sites. But mainly because it's absolutely beautiful. If you live in San Francisco it's a wonderful day trip and super close to SF. I leave you here with some photos of my hike and hope you get to experience it yourself.

Forever wander,
~Vero
